PRESS RELEASESAN FRANCISCO, CA--January 6, 2000--The Albatross band's first CD, Blues Landing was released December 2, 1999 on the Mavwreck Records label. The CD is packed with great original tunes reminiscent of the blues and rock styles of the late 1960's and early 1970's. From the San Francisco Bay Area, the band members are: lead guitarist and vocals, James Petrella; lead vocalist and bass player, Phil Zamora; and drummer, Johann Zamora. Albatross presents a refreshing package of "neoclassic rock" and blues, a musical progression boomers and X'ers alike have been waiting for. The CD is an engaging blend of blues and hard rock tunes, such as "Man of the World," a tribute to Muddy Waters which showcases Petrella's raw talent and deeply emotional guitar style and Phil Zamora's strong, soulful voice. A spirited union of rock and blues, the CD's opening song "High Tide" uses compelling guitar harmonies and has an appealing, percussive melody line. "Time of Our Lives", a philosophical song about being lost in the swells of depression and then finding a way out, is musically upbeat rock and roll and features smooth, but haunting, harmonies reminiscent of the vocal and music stylings of the 60's trio, Cream. "Heart in My Hand", a classic blues tune in the tradition of Robert Johnson and Bukka White, features Petrella on slide guitar. "Heart" is a song about love gone bad, and Phil Zamora sings it with a bluesmans' sincerity. The instrumental piece "Chameleon" is a runaway tune with unpredictable meter changes, a fiery, intense guitar solo by Petrella and a complex, sophisticated drum solo by Johann Zamora. "Short Skirt" is a lulling, captivating piece about the joys of grown-up "woman watching" and reminds us once again that we live in a sensual world where men and women just can't stop noticing each other. The CD includes 10 songs in all. Other song titles are "High Tide," "Sea Line Woman," "Wharf Blues," "Embarcadero Blues and "American Stockade." Albatross cites their major influences as Cream, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era), Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Their sound is powerful and bluesy with dynamic passages, great songwriting, melodic vocal harmonies and a command of their instruments that takes the term "power trio" to the next level. The CD "Blues Landing" is available at Amazon.com and CDNow.com. It will soon be available at record stores. Visit http://www.MavwreckRecords.com for more info and listen to sound clips from the CD.
